Customers will experience this as a speedier service.” Better stock management Online orders of sawn timber support and add flexibility to customers´ inventory management, as they can quickly restock according to their needs. Mathematical modelling was used for easier prediction of availability in the Timber Marketplace. Customers can now place online orders for sawn timber that is not yet available but is already included in the production plans of Metsä Fibre’s sawmills. Orders can also be placed for different delivery days at the same time, so that the size of the inventory can be planned in advance. “In our renewed online shop, customers see the availability of sawn timber three months in advance. Together with the option of spreading orders across several deliveries, this offers customers more flexibility in their inventory management.” Service accessible via contact person Timber Marketplace is available to all Metsä Fibre sawn timber customers. Customers who would like to begin using the service should get in touch with their contact person, who will provide instructions for using the service. An instructional video is also available. The online shop is an excellent service for customers who occa- sionally need small volumes of sawn timber at short notice. The order’s progress from the sawmill onward can be followed in real time in the Track & Trace service. “Based on the feedback we receive, we will continue to devel- op digital purchasing and we believe that online sawn timber purchases will become even more common in the future. The advantage of the online marketplace is that it serves customers around the clock.” •

Timber Marketplace has been revamped to improve the purchasing experience. Orders can now be placed for many different days at the same time. “We want to offer our customers a truly modern, user-friendly online shop that will help their business,” says Katja Salmenkivi , Metsä Fibre’s Sales Director and project manager for updating the online marketplace. Timber Marketplace is an online shop for sawn timber offered to Metsä Fibre’s customers in the sawmill industry. Online purchases have been available since 2017, but now the online marketplace has been revamped and is better than ever. “The online shop has been fully updated to let customers order and purchase sawn timber products quickly and easily. It helps our customers to manage their inventory and optimise their pur- chase processes.” The development work began from a survey conducted among sawn timber customers. Their feedback was used to improve the entire online purchase process, starting from the sawmill. In other words, the project was more extensive than just developing the features of the online shop.
